Upton Junior School is looking for a new Senior Teaching Assistant to join our team. We have a skilled team of support staff who play a vital part in supporting our children’s learning across the school.

The post is class based. Mornings are spent within classes, either delivering interventions or supporting class teachers within English and Maths lessons. Afternoons are spent covering classes across Key Stage Two to release teachers. Our Senior Teaching Assistants are also deployed to cover mornings and whole days when class teachers are absent.

Successful candidates will need to hold an HLTA qualification or have demonstrable evidence of leading whole class teaching in a school setting. You should be comfortable delivering the national curriculum, including English and Maths lessons to whole classes across the school. Additional training for specific interventions and teaching and learning strategies will be provided as appropriate. You must also be able to manage a whole class and demonstrate excellence in behaviour management. Planning for lessons is provided by class teachers but Senior Teaching Assistants are expected to use our teaching and learning and feedback practices.

You must also demonstrate:

  • A passion for education and making a difference for children
  • A commitment to our philosophy of ‘One Childhood, One Chance’
  • The desire for continuous professional development
  • Evidence of collaboration and team work
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policy and practices

We can offer you:

  • In house training delivered across the Viking Academy Trust, particularly within your first year of employment
  • Skilled and supportive colleagues
  • Wonderful and enthusiastic children
  • A well-resourced school
  • An incredible team both at Upton and Viking!

Please make applications via Kent-Teach, ensuring that you have outlined how your skills and experience meet the Job Description and Person Specification in the 'Reason for Application' section.

Contract type: Permanent

Hours per week: 25 hours

Pay Range: Kent Range 6, £21,801 pro rata (approximately £12,345.26)

Visits to the school prior to application are welcomed. Please contact Mrs Darci Arthur, Head of School, by email headofschool@uptonjunior.com to arrange an appointment.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students. You are advised that this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and therefore this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
