Inclusion and Welfare Officer 

This is a Fixed Term Contract until April 2024 

The role 

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity in a role that you can make your own within a flourishing school?  

We are looking for an Inclusion and Welfare Officer to join our team to assist our existing SEN, pastoral and attendance teams. The core role is to help fill gaps in the wrap around care for vulnerable and emotional students, helping them transition back into school after absence, helping them deal with relationship issues, supporting the pastoral team and attendance team by ensuring students are calm and ready to access their lessons. This role is not to run a long term alternative provision, but, to help students who are not coping with mainstream lessons overcome their barriers in the short to medium term e.g. meet them as they arrive at school, get them to where they should be, check in with them at break etc. Coaching and mentoring students is part of the role, as is potentially one to one or small group tuition for candidates with the right academic backgrounds. Occasional lesson cover, taking part in school trips, running or supporting school clubs and sports fixtures are all things that you can take part in depending on your likes and experience. You would be out and about at lesson change, break and lunch, helping ensure the students you support are calm and happy as they move around site. 

We have well behaved students and a clear and well established behaviour policy that you would be trained in. This role is to support the small number of students who struggle with that and need extra support. Contact with parents and external agencies will form part of the role, as would occasional home visits. 

The successful candidate will be able to assist teaching and support staff with the smooth running of the school, establish good relationships with our students and make an important contribution to our wider school life via co-curricular activities.  

About You 

You will be working alongside our teachers and support staff, so you will need to be pro-active, organised, enthusiastic and able to use your initiative. Good time keeping and the ability to present yourself professionally are essential. This role would suit someone with experience of working in a school or youth work, experience of coaching or someone who wants to work in a school before going into teacher training or a teaching assistant role. Experience is useful but we are also open to recent graduates/training leavers with the right attitude and ability to learn. 

As part of a busy school environment, the ability to deal with pupils and parents, in a polite and helpful manner is essential.  You must be mature and understand about the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding in taking on such a role.  People are more important than posts to us so if you think you would fit into an upbeat and diverse team and enjoy the fact that no two days are the same, we may be able to offer your ideal role.
