Advert

St Augustine Academy is a successful 11-16 Academy in Maidstone, Kent. We are seeking to appoint an experienced, effective, enthusiastic and dynamic teacher of science to lead our science department.

The department has a good mix of well-established and friendly staff, including a second in department and 2 technicians.

Teachers of Science teach both KS3 and KS4 in ability sets. KS3 students are taught Science over 7 lessons over the two weeks. At KS4 students have Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons, and we try where possible for teachers to teach within their specialism. The majority of students take OCR Gateway Combined Science and have 9 lessons over two weeks, 3 in each subject area. Students are also offered OCR Triple Science as a guided option and have 14 lessons over two weeks, 5 Chemistry, 5 Physics and 4 Biology. A comprehensive scheme of work is in place with shared resources.

We are a very well-resourced department in terms of experience, equipment and shared teaching resources. Each member of staff is provided with a staff laptop, and each teacher within the science department has a visualiser. We have 6 modern spacious laboratories, and one science theory classroom, serviced by one modern prep room with two experienced technicians. As a school we have 3 bookable computer rooms which we can use for our lessons.

As a school we are proud to offer our KS3 students timetabled Enrichment each week. All staff are expected to offer an activity for this Enrichment which could be related to the teacher’s specialist subject or an area in which they are passionate about. This is an excellent opportunity for both staff and students to benefit from a wider curriculum and gives an opportunity for staff to promote our school ethos with students beyond the boundaries of their classrooms.

We require from Easter 2023 an outstanding teacher and a highly effective leader who will:

• Be an outstanding classroom practitioner

• Be an enthusiastic subject specialist skilled in delivering engaging science lessons

• Be an exemplary communicator

• Possess the vision and drive to ensure all our students are able to succeed

• Motivate, challenge, support and inspire our students

• Be committed to closing gaps and raising attainment across all abilities, whatever their starting point.

• Be committed to supporting and coaching staff

• Be responsible for leading on pedagogy which impacts on classroom learning

• Aspire to a senior leadership role in a school in the future

The successful applicant will have a customised induction programme and opportunities to further develop their own leadership and management experience.

If you wish to have an informal discussion about this post or visit the Academy please contact Mrs Yvonne Lambert, PA to the Principal to arrange.
