Premises Caretaker (Full-Time) at The John Wesley CEM Primary School

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly committed Caretaker who will ensure that our children learn in a safe, clean and healthy environment. You will be an important member of our school team. This role would suit someone who is confident regarding site security, has a working knowledge of and competence in H&S systems, general DIY and grounds maintenance.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a strong, supportive team within our school.

The role is for 40 hrs a week as a split shift. The hours are Monday to Friday, as two shifts; 7.00am – 9.00am & 12.00pm - 6pm to accommodate opening, lunchtimes and closing the school.

We would really like to meet you if you:

  • take pride in your work, care for the place you work and have a personal drive to make a difference
  • can be passionate about the school and positively communicate with all the children, staff and external contractors
  • have a positive, self-motivated, and are organised with good practical skills
  • have some knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical and decorating repairs
  • are conscientious and hard working to ensure all duties are carried out to a high standard
  • are able to work as part of an effective team and understand and carry out instructions
  • can maintain the School’s H&S compliance systems including weekly and monthly tests such as regular water testing and flushing and fire alarm tests (training will be available for all of these – we just need someone to be organised enough to carry them out)
  • can support internal school events by preparing facilities, setting up IT and configuring rooms as required
  • can be responsible for the opening up and locking up of the building/gates
  • can manage, liaise and support the contract cleaners to keep high standards of cleanliness around the school building and external areas.
  • are physically fit and able to undertake lifting/carrying
  • can be flexible and prioritise workload

The John Wesley CEM Primary School is a two-form mainstream primary school with currently 450 pupils. We are also extremely fortunate to have a Specialist Resource Provision for SLCN and host a Special School EYFS O & A class on our site.
