We are excited to announce that the Local Governing Body (LGB) at South Borough Primary School is looking to recruit a Chair of Governors.

The LGB meets six times per year and each Governor is allocated to either the Safeguarding Team or Health and Safety Team.  Chairs are expected to attend three Primary Executive Board meetings per year.

Governors have an essential part to play in helping schools to run effectively.  They work as part of a team with the Head of School and staff to help provide a safe and thriving learning environment for all children.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual.  You do not need educational experience, but you will have leadership experience, and a desire to give back to the school and its community.  The LGB is inclusive and we aim to reflect the diversity of our school community in our Governing Body.

LGB Governors must be:

  • prepared and equipped to take their responsibilities seriously;
  • accountable to Swale Academies Trust Board of Trustees;
  • willing and able to monitor and review their own performance;
  • prepared to attend regular meetings per year;
  • prepared to carry out monitoring visits as required.

Further information about governance at Swale Academies Trust can be found here:

To apply, please email a brief letter outlining the reasons why you feel you are suitable for the role and the skills you would bring, attaching your CV, to the Head of School via the school office sbps_office@swale.at.  You must be 18 or over to apply and all governors are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

The deadline for applications is noon on Friday 1st July 2022.

Information about the school

South Borough Primary School in Maidstone is currently a 2 form entry school with three classes in both Year 2 and 3. It became part of the Swale Academies Trust on 1st February 2015.

At South Borough Primary School we believe every child matters and is at the heart of all we do. We aim to ensure they can read, write and calculate effectively when they leave us. Together with that we aim to instill a sense of pride, tolerance, determination and perseverance to help them in all aspects of life. Good behaviour for learning is key for children to make good progress. We reward and practice this behaviour at school and our core values promote children to become supportive, honest children who are confident to take risks and persevere when the going gets tough.

The school received a ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement in 2018 and we continue to provide high quality education for all our learners.

We collaborate with other Trust schools, to ensure best practice is shared. We value our parents and have an active Friends of South Borough (FOSB) who regularly meet and organise events/functions/activities for our children.

We are proud to offer wrap around care from 7:45 am to 6:00 pm every day which is also available for the children of staff, should the need arise.
