Student Mentor and Sports Coach

Salary – KR 5 £20,595 - £21,693 (FTE) / £17,327 - £18,251 (pro Rata)

Term Time Only – Plus 2 inset days

Full Time – 37.5 hours per week – flexible working hours including expectation of clubs/ fixture support.  Negotiable on appointment

Start date – ASAP or September 2022

Wrotham School is looking to appoint a Student Mentor with a sports focused skillset. This work will involve working with small groups of students to improve their engagement in school using sports coaching and learning to improve buy in and academic focus. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with our inclusion team and the PE department to develop this exciting work.

This position is highly suited for any candidate who would like a strong and supported access route into teacher training or a future education related post.

Job Description

Student Mentor

Your primary task is to deliver and assess resources to young people whilst keeping them engaged, enthusiastic and focused on their learning. 

PE Assistant

Your primary task is to assist the PE department with delivering high quality Physical Education and Sport experiences to our students. 

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • 5 GCSE’s including English and Maths
  • Have an enthusiasm for sport
  • Have experience in coaching or teaching sport to children
  • Be proactive in your approach and able to seek new ways to be creative and inspire pupils to engage
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with pupils, other professionals and parents
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a range of audiences
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to follow instructions, policies and procedures
  • Able to demonstrate and promote positive values, attitudes and behaviour with young people

Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Level 3 Qualification in a relevant subject (BTEC Sport/A Level PE)
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (PE, Sport Science, Sport Coaching)
  • Understanding of safeguarding personal qualities
  • Willingness to work flexibly according to the fluctuating demands of the role
