Coastal Academies Trust
Birchington
Trust Description
Coastal Academies Trust is a multi academy trust of four schools in Thanet, King Ethelbert, Dane Court Grammar, Hartsdown and Cliftonville Primary. Royal Harbour Academy is an associate member due to join the trust. We operate as a partnership of equals and a team of Headteachers, taking collective responsibility for all students in the Trust and sharing practice and challenging each other constantly to improve outcomes for students. We are committed to Thanet because, as a deprived coastal region, it needs a relentless focus on improvement. We are also committed to remaining a small Trust, growing to about eight schools and supporting the development of other MATs in the area, with whom we can collaborate.
We strongly believe in a school led, self-improving state education system and we are committed to working in partnership with local employers, other schools, the Local Education Authority, the Department of Education and any other potential partner to achieve this.
Thanet is characterised by economic and cultural poverty, as well as by a lack of aspiration in the indigenous population. Coastal Academies Trust does not accept that poverty limits achievement and we demand high aspirations of our students by insisting that they are provided with the best educational provision.
