Information about the school

We are incredibly proud of our wonderful rural school and all the pupils who embark on their journeys as part of our Wittersham family.

As a proud Church School, our Christian vision underpins our decisions and actions. As a result, the staff team and school community are inspired to ensure children feel valued, empowered and nurtured whilst developing a strong moral purpose which embodies our Chrisitian values of courage, compassion and cooperation.

Children at Wittersham are treated as individuals and encouraged to develop enquiring minds, a thirst for challenge and a ‘can do’ attitude. Staff and governors consistently strive for high standards and excellent progress with every child at the centre of what we do. Expectations for learning and behaviour are high and our extensive extracurricular and enrichment programme highlights our commitment to the individual. We aspire for our learning community to achieve high standards by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, opportunities and experiences to inspire a lifelong love of learning.

Wittersham was judged to be ‘Outstanding’ in its 2017 church inspection (SIAMS) which celebrated the school’s strong Christian ethos and set of values. Ofsted judged the school to be ‘Good’ during its most recent inspection. The inspector described the children’s experience of being at this school: “This is a happy and welcoming school. Christian values and a strong sense of community lie at the heart of this village school. Staff have caring relationships with pupils and know their families well. Pupils respond positively to leaders’ high expectations. Pupils want to do well, and they learn to persevere and not give up. They thrive within this trusting and harmonious environment” (HMI January 2020).

Wittersham school is situated mid-way between Tenterden and Rye, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and close to the church. We serve a range of rural areas and many families choose to travel in order to secure a place in our wonderful school. Our rural location is a key element of the broad Wittersham curriculum offered to children. We aim to utilise this at every available opportunity as we believe it further enhances children’s holistic development.

At Wittersham Church of England Primary School, we believe parents are partners in children’s development and, along with our talented and committed staff working together as a school family, we can ensure that children are nurtured, empowered and successful at school.

Wittersham CEP School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
