The Anthony Roper Primary School

Local Area

Eynsford and Farningham

The Anthony Roper School is located in Eynsford and serves the villages of Eynsford and Farningham and the surrounding area.  They are picturesque villages, set in the Darent Valley which is part of a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Easily accessible by train, Eynsford is relatively small and has retained much of its country charm.  It has many historic buildings including St Martin’s Church, Eynsford Castle, Lullingstone Roman Villa and Lullingstone Castle, which draw visitors from all across the county.  Farningham, just to the north, is similar in size and also has many historic buildings including the 13th century church of St Peter and Paul, Saxon and Roman ruins and evidence of Neolithic settlement.

Underneath all of the historical charm, there is a strong sense of community and family in both villages, with activities and clubs for all ages and interests. As well as the local shops, there are several places to eat including six pubs (assuming the pandemic is under control).  Eagle Heights Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary and Lullingstone Country Park are nearby. Within the villages, there are children’s playgrounds and the popular Riverside where children enjoy playing in the river.

Transport

The villages are half way between Dartford (seven miles north) and Sevenoaks (seven miles south).  Swanley is about three miles to the west.

The villages are accessible by public transport: Eynsford has its own train station. The station is located at the southern edge of the village, about 10 minutes walk from the centre. Trains run from London Blackfriars, London Victoria and Sevenoaks. Farningham does not have its own station but is within walking distance of both Eynsford and Farningham Road stations.

The villages are also served by a bus service including routes to and from Sevenoaks, Swanley and Bluewater. Bus routes that stop in the villages are 478, 403 and 421 and are run by Arriva and Go-coach.

Farningham and Eynsford are both located on the A225 and can be accessed via J3 of the M25.
