St Nicholas is a community day special school located in the historic city of Canterbury, Kent.  It provides education for over 330 children and young people aged between 4 and 19 who have profound, severe and complex learning needs.

We have a caring culture and a high staff to pupil ratio to support all of our pupils in a happy, friendly, calm and supportive learning environment. School leaders and staff are passionate about striving to improve the outcomes and life chances for all of our pupils. They work hard to understand pupils’ individual needs and promote their well-being.

The successful candidate will need to be outward-facing and able to communicate well to establish strong relationships with our supportive parents and carers, as well as St Nicholas’s many stakeholders. They will need to be able to challenge positively and lead change effectively.

The successful candidate will also be somebody capable of providing professional leadership to an inclusive and diverse school community spread across the main school and a number of satellite classes located in mainstream schools in the Canterbury area. The constructive and mutually beneficial relationship established with Headteachers in our satellite network has helped St Nicholas School to develop and grow.

Through our membership of the supportive Kent Special Educational Needs Trust (KSENT), St Nicholas also works with other special schools in the county to ensure that all of our pupils receive an excellent education.

Governors at St Nicholas are committed to the professional support and development of the Headteacher through programmes of mentoring, coaching and other tailored forms of support.

St Nicholas School is a great place to work and learn. We have brilliant pupils, wonderful and highly dedicated leaders and staff, and knowledgeable and supportive governors.

If you would like to be part of the St Nicholas story and would like to further develop your career, the Governing Board look forward to hearing from you.
