Leigh Primary School is situated adjacent to Leigh Village Green, 6 miles west of Tonbridge, Kent. We provide an education for around 170 children aged from 4 to 11 years, divided between 6 classes. The early part of the school was built in 1870 as the Boys' National School. Later additions were made and then the school house was converted to provide a further classroom, 2 offices and a staff room. We currently have six classrooms, following the creation of a new classroom in 2012 and bespoke music rooms following the development of disused public facilities in 2017.

Our long history on this site means that tradition plays its part in shaping our character. Our pupils are independent, have an adventurous spirit, good manners, respect for others and are resilient. Innovation and creativity flourish and help to define Leigh Primary School as a truly forward thinking school as displayed by our recent heavy investment in ICT equipment and our excellent music facilities. We are proud of our location in the heart of the village and our community is extended into the local area and those we help support through local and national charities.

Our Guiding Principles are the foundations on which we base teaching, learning and social development. The five principles of Resilience, Independence, Good Communication, Healthy Bodies and Minds and Teamwork are embodied in our ACT RIGHT programme which is a bespoke programme created by our staff and pupils here as a ‘whole school’ project. Our Guiding Principles are on display in the heart of the school and serve to remind the whole community of our common purpose and goals. We believe these principals are at the heart of all we do.

Despite being a small school we are fortunate to have excellent facilities including a dedicated library, 2 music rooms, a spacious school hall, a room used specifically for intervention work and our nurture group, Acorns, a large school field and the use of the village Green. Our beautiful location allows us the space to breathe and learn outdoors. For example, we have been a Forest School since 2013 and our dedicated, recently renovated, Forest School area is a much loved space within our school. Forest school activities are child led but we do offer a range of springboard activities which are often inspired by the topics each class are studying. Highlights this year have included building bridges, making bows and arrows, building dens, creating castles, finding newts in the pond, tasting fresh nettle pesto and listening to the sounds of the wood in our barefoot yoga activities.

We believe that there is no limit to what our pupils can achieve and it is our privilege to nurture the potential talents of all our pupils and to provide them with an effective springboard for their future. Taking on the Headship at Leigh Primary School will be an exciting challenge for an ambitious, caring, creative and talented leader who wishes to have a truly unique opportunity to lead a wonderful school into the next chapter of its history.
