Maypole Primary School

About The School

Please read a welcome letter from our Chair of Governors.

At Maypole primary school we pride ourselves on our caring, friendly and inclusive environment. We put children first and aim to bring out the very best in every individual. The relationships we develop with our children and families enable us to create a distinctive ethos.

We are very proud of our achievements; the high standards achieved by pupils and our sporting successes. We are passionate about educating the whole child and ensuring that we provide pupils with a wide range of experiences and opportunities.

In our latest Ofsted Inspection (June 2018), we were pleased that the school continued to remain good. The school community is committed to pupils reaching the highest possible standards and to further improve their achievements. Leaders and governors are relentlessly ambitious and consistently aim for outstanding outcomes in all aspects of the school.

Pupils’ attainment and progress in writing are a strength of the school. Attainment in writing has been significantly higher than that of other pupils nationally for the last three years. Behaviour in the school is excellent and children give their best and work hard in lessons.

There is a very high level of pupil involvement in sports and several successes in local and county tournaments.

The school has achieved the CPD Mark, the Achievement for All Mark and the Music Mark.

The pastoral care of children is a strength of the school. Vulnerable pupils are identified quickly by our Inclusion Manager, staff and our Pastoral Support Worker and pupils’ well-being is monitored alongside their academic progress. The school has a full time Pastoral Support Worker who works alongside children and vulnerable families to improve outcomes, support positive parenting and to monitor absence and punctuality. A part time counsellor is also employed to deliver one to one counselling sessions for vulnerable pupils to raise self-esteem and improve emotional well-being.

We have a school dog, Max, who is a 1 year old Cockapoo. Max spends time in classes and outside during PE times, timetabled during the school day. He meets and greets children in the mornings on their way into school. Some children, who used to find it difficult to come into school, now run to Max in the morning with some children being taken to class by Max. He has made a huge difference to the children, particularly those with social, emotional and behavioural needs.

Specialist speech and language and EAL trained LSAs work within the school to improve outcomes for identified pupils across the school.

The school provides excellent CPD opportunities for staff, which includes the development of highly effective NQTs and trainee teachers. There is a culture of ‘grow your own’ teachers and leaders, and senior leaders support subject and middle leaders well in their professional development.
