Ethelbert Road Primary School

Local Area

Located within walking distance of Faversham town centre, Ethelbert Road Primary School is situated in one of England’s most charming and historic market towns, in the heart of rural Kent and recorded in the Domesday Book back in 1086.

There are excellent transport connections in the town including strong rail and road links. Faversham train station has regular services to London, including to St Pancras via High Speed 1 in just over an hour. With direct access to the M2 as well as the A2 and A299 you can easily explore the rest of county, perhaps visiting Canterbury, the wonderful countryside Kent has to offer or some of the UK’s finest beaches and coastal towns such as Whitstable, just 8 miles away and Margate only 40 minutes’ drive away. Faversham is also ideally placed under an hour away from Folkestone and Dover for trips to the continent by ferry or Le Shuttle.

Faversham is home to Britain’s oldest Brewery, Shepherd Neame, a family owned business founded in 1698. The brewer provides a focal point for Faversham’s world-famous hop festival every year in September, just one of the huge range of festivals and events that the town has to offer, from monthly vintage markets, seasonal food festivals, classic car events, carols in the square at Christmas, Faversham Fringe, Literary Festival and the Midsummer Night’s Feast. Our culturally creative town also provides fantastic clubs for children including Cubs, Brownies and Sea Scouts, Youth choir, dance and theatre and Sea Cadets to name a few.

Faversham is located on a beautiful meandering creek which still supports an active fleet of historic Thames barges as well as being a haven for pleasure boats and home to skilled craftsmen. The town’s tradition of shipbuilding and maritime trade goes back over 1000 years and the town is a Cinque Port, a unique association of maritime towns and villages in Kent and East Sussex. There are annual events which celebrate the creek including the summer Nautical Festival, as well as sailing and rowing races.

There are numerous walks you can take around the town and its surrounding areas. Oare marshes to the north are an unspoilt and tranquil haven for walkers, livestock and wildlife. Cattle and sheep graze the wetlands, following a centuries-old tradition that encourages a diversity of coastal plants, creating an internationally-important bird life sanctuary at Harty Ferry. South of the town there is easy access to the North Downs woodlands and heathland for walks and cycle rides.

With the town’s amazing array of independent boutique shops, captivating places to visit and explore including having the convenience of being by the coast as well as the outstanding country side, Faversham truly is a delightful place to live and the perfect place to unwind.
