Higham Primary School

About the School

Our school motto ‘Grow, Learn, Achieve, Believe’ embodies our whole school ethos; this ethos and values are at the core of everything we do.

Please read a welcome letter from our Chair of Governors.

Higham Primary School is a 1 form entry, village school with a strong community and family feel. The school has served the village for over 150 years and as such, is established at the heart of the local community. Although the school has no religious affiliation to a religious body, there is a strong tradition of links with the local church of St John’s in Higham.

The school has a strong reputation locally and therefore, we are currently oversubscribed, with applications growing year on year. We currently have 210 pupils on roll.

We are proud that our school challenges yet supports all pupils regardless of their starting point. We have an excellent reputation and history of supporting children with special educational needs as we treat all children as individuals to ensure all their needs are met. Children support each other and are encouraged to take on responsibilities within the school, such as playtime buddies and running the school library.

Our most recent Ofsted (prior to the inspection on 6th June 2018) was Good with outstanding features, in the report the school is described as “a place where pupils say they feel safe, happy and enjoy their learning” and “behaviour in lessons is exemplary because the pupils are active learners”. The pupils have achieved excellent results, last year’s were all above the national average which is testament to our dedicated staff and the children’s commitment to learning.

The latest Ofsted Inspection results will be added to the school website once formally ratified by Ofsted. Please take a look at our current achievement as determined by Ofsted as we are proud to showcase our achievements.

Music is very strong at Higham Primary School; Year 3 take whole class recorder, Year 4, whole class ukulele and Year 5 whole class clarinet. We have extracurricular music clubs that are very popular, including recorder, choir, clarinet, ukulele and percussion. Our choir has performed at Young Voices at the O2 and our students have attended a Benenden Orchestra Day.

We are lucky to have a very active school council and PTA who regularly organise fundraising events; this year we have supported Children in Need and Sports Relief. Our PTA are involved in running school discos, film night and our hugely popular Christmas and summer fayres. Entertainment at these events included live reindeer, bouncy castle zones, birds of prey displays and even stormtroopers!
