Local Area

Blean is a delightful woodland village and lies in the Canterbury district of Kent; situated between Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable and Faversham, Blean is one of the most distinctive areas of ancient woodland in England and covers 11 square miles. The village is nationally recognised as being important for wildlife and there are many footpaths and cycle routes allowing you to explore the area as well as making pit stops along your way at local village shops, pubs or restaurants.

Canterbury is a beautiful historical cathedral city that lies in east Kent, South East England. As a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, it boasts ancient ruins and the oldest cathedral in England, which dominates the city’s skyline. Canterbury is a harmonious marriage of the old and new with its charming medieval winding streets and buildings to fantastic high street shopping and range of international cuisines. It has a number of primary and secondary schools and is a host to four universities.

There are excellent transport links with Canterbury East and West train stations in the city providing easy access to London.  The A2 is within close proximity allowing you easy access to travel to other parts of Kent.  You can visit the border of London in just over one hour driving or Dover, 17 miles away, situated on the coast and consists of Europe’s international ferry port.  Ashford International station is only 16 miles from the city or a 21 minute train ride to access the Eurostar and the rest of Europe.

Nearby are the popular seaside towns of Whitstable, with its famous annual oyster festival, and Herne Bay which has great activities and seafood restaurants.  You can even venture a bit further to discover the beautiful sandy bays in Broadstairs; Kent is spoilt with a great choice of beaches so you can discover a different one each weekend.

With its history, beauty and charm, there is a reason Canterbury and it’s surrounding villages are consistently one of the most-visited areas in the United Kingdom.
