Blean Primary School

About the School

Please read a letter from Hugh, Chair of Governors.

We are a popular, creative and imaginative school set on the outskirts of Canterbury on a spacious site. Ofsted judged us as ‘Outstanding’ in our recent Inspection (March 2016).

Blean Primary School was first founded in 1929 on its current site. The physical buildings demonstrate character and the evolving site over the years, including the original buildings, those added in the 1960's and further new classrooms in 2010. Most recently we have added a specialist care suite on-site, allowing us to ensure access to our school for pupils with physical disabilities.

We are an outward facing school, working effectively with a range of partners to develop a sustainable system of school improvement. We have a strong track record of collaborative working with the EduCant group of schools (within the Canterbury area) and in providing high quality professional development through our Learning and Development Centre. Teaching is of a consistently high standard and we use action research-based enquiry as a tool to reflect and improve practice.

The school has a large hall that is used for many activities including Sport, Assemblies and of course School Lunches! These are prepared on site in the school’s kitchen.

The school is lucky to have a large playing field. There is also a large playground which is used for sports such as Hockey and Netball. Over the years, thanks to the support of the PTFA , play facilities have been enhanced with a play area and tyre adventure trail plus other numerous improvements.

Lots of further information is included on our website.
