Thamesview School

About The School

Please read a Letter from our Chair of Governors

Thamesview School is an oversubscribed Local Authority school.  It is a mixed sex 11-18 school with over 800 pupils on roll.  Over one third of students are from disadvantaged backgrounds and the school has seen rapidly improving examination results over the past five years.  Thamesview is a secondary modern school in a selective area.

The school was rated ‘good’ by Ofsted in 2014.  52% of pupils gained a 4+ in English and Maths in 2017 with 65% of pupils achieving a 4+ in English and 63% of pupils achieving a 4+ in Maths.  The school has adapted well to the new tougher examination system and the challenges it brings.

Thamesview is at an exciting time in its history.  A new sixth form provision was established in 2017 with a small group of pupils studying the IBCP (International Baccalaureate Career related Programme).  Plans are in place to steadily grow the sixth form provision.  The school is expanding at the lower end too, with a new form of entry added to Year 7 in 2016 and 2017.

Thamesview is an IB World School and as such imbues the IB vision into all school business.  Our vision is to provide an inclusive school where all members of the community strive to fulfil the principles of the IB so that pupils are:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Balanced
  • Reflective
  • Risk-takers

The school was rebuilt as a BSF school in 2010.  The well-kept environment, innovative technology and committed governors all work together to create a thriving school community.   Thamesview benefits from a very committed staff body and from very hard working pupils.  All members of the school community do their part in making sure Thamesview is a vibrant community that is prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

All our pupils are encouraged to have high aspirations and to always do their best.  Successful year 11 placements on A-level courses have risen from 10% in 2012 to 40% in 2017; this is a mark of the rising aspirations of our young people.

Our school is a caring school with a strong pastoral structure.  We recognise that some pupils require more support than others and endeavour to make sure that no child is at a disadvantage within our school.  We have a specialist physically disabled unit which prides itself on providing high quality support and is committed to inclusivity.  We have our own on-site alternative provision unit.

Thamesview encourages the development of the whole child with an extensive programme of enrichment activities throughout the year which includes a variety of academic and non-academic after school course for pupils.  These enrichment activities include participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. We have a multi-use games area next to the school and a large sports field. Our dedicated vocational unit includes facilities for construction and for salon services.
