Bethersden Primary School

About The School

Please read a letter from our Chair of Governors.

Bethersden School provides a stimulating environment for all. We have a close relationship with all stakeholders, parents who are keen and happy to communicate with staff, pupils who arrive at school happy to be there and enthusiastic to begin their learning and dedicated staff who are ready to give their all to enable those pupils to fulfill their potential.

We are proud to be pro-active participants in the Tenterden Rural Alliance, providing links and opportunities between both primary and secondary schools in the area. We have a large playground, with a designated area for KS1 pupils; an outdoor area for our Reception children, which is gradually being further developed and a large school field which is used by all pupils.

We offer an excellent extended school provision. In addition to our fast-growing Breakfast Club, we have a wide range of after school clubs including a strong choir (who regularly perform in the wider community), varied sports, cooking and different artistic pursuits. Computer club is always popular, where children are encouraged to learn programming.

The children at Bethersden are the heart of our village school. We are proud that our passion for inclusion provides us with a rich, diverse mix of children who work hard and have an overwhelmingly positive attitude to learning and school life.

There is a strong link with Bethersden tennis club, which has helped us to a recent bronze medal at the Ashford schools championship. We also regularly compete in the local schools cross country event and other local sporting challenges. Links with other areas of the community are also strong, including regular visits to the church and church members telling bible stories through drama in regular assemblies.

Bethersden is a community school in the beautiful rural location of Bethersden village, lying halfway between the towns of Ashford and Tenterden and situated just off the A28.

A roll of 130 children with 5 1/2 classes, 6 classes in the morning and 5 classes after lunch.

Our latest OFSTED report, March 2014, judged the school as solidly ‘Good’ and we are well on our journey towards achieving ‘outstanding’.

We have strong, ongoing links with Canterbury Christ Church University and are passionate about 'growing our own'. The last 4 appointments we have made have been students from CCCU.
