Slade Primary School

About The School

Please read a letter from our Chair of Governors.

Slade Primary School is located in the centre of the historic town of Tonbridge in Kent. The school sits in a wonderful location nestled behind the 13th Century castle, close to local churches, the River Medway and the local park, which are all ideal resources for the school to use to inspire and motivate children.

The School, which celebrated it’s centenary in 2007, caters for children from 4 years to 11 years old and includes an attached unit for children with hearing impairment between the ages of 2 and 11 years old. There are approximately 345 children on roll although the school is in the process of expanding to a two-form entry with an eventual roll of 420 by 2020. We employ 15 teachers, 28 teaching assistants (TAs), three office staff, 1 Finance manager, 1 caretaker and 6 members of staff to run the breakfast and after school club.

The school site comprises an Edwardian main block containing six classrooms, the school library and the main hall, three additional classrooms and a staff room built adjacent to the main block.  The site now also includes a new building, Deacon House, opened in September 2015, containing 4 upper junior classrooms, a small hall and a PPA area which has been a welcome addition to the school.

Other buildings include a ‘mobile’ classroom for one of the two reception classes, opened in 2014, a ‘mobile’ music classroom with a wide selection of instruments and the unit for children with hearing impairment which consists of three classrooms fitted with sound absorbing material and other specialist equipment.

All the classrooms are carpeted, curtained and equipped to a high standard with the necessary resources to deliver the National Curriculum.

There is a playground, including play equipment, a well-resourced segregated Early Years outdoor play area and a large school field which includes the school allotment, orchard, three ‘outdoor classrooms’ and outdoor play equipment.

The school has invested heavily in IT resources including laptops, iPads and large touch-screen panels in Deacon House which are all used to enhance learning.
