Dover Grammar School for Girls

Local Area

The history that enriches Dover and the surrounding community is as deep as it is expansive. From the castle that sits proudly above the town, to the forts, churches, roman remains and war bunkers that emerge at every turn.

It is also an area with exceptional natural beauty, from the famous white cliffs to the beautiful beaches, to the many parks and country walks available on the doorstep.

Dover is just an hour on the high speed train to London, with excellent motorway links to London and to the north and a short 35 minutes crossing to Europe to the south.

Re-locating to the coast also enables you take advantage of the wide range of house prices in the area. There is a choice of urban centres, small country villages or brand new estates within a short commute of the school. There are a range of excellent schools in the area and extensive foodie centres from Deal to Canterbury to Hythe a short drive away.

Built in 1910, the school is a hugely important part of the community.  Nestled right in the centre of town, our staff and pupils get a chance to represent the values of the school to the community on a regular basis. A historic school building does bring a set of logistical challenges, but we take a pride in extending the legacy of the many generations of previous pupils who walked those same halls.
