Sissinghurst (VA) Church of England Primary School

Local Area

Sissinghurst Primary School is situated in the quintessential Kentish village of Sissinghurst, surrounded by beautiful countryside, farmland, orchards and historic buildings – in the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The school is a brief cross-country walk to the famous estate of Sissinghurst Castle and Garden, and a five-minute drive to the local market town of Cranbrook – affectionately known as the 'Cathedral of the Weald'. In addition to its rich history and community activities, Cranbrook includes a wide array of amenities including a supermarket, swimming pool and leisure centre, several banks, independent shops, dentists, hairdressers, and multiple cafes, pubs and restaurants.

The local area is rich in natural beauty with ample routes for walking and cycling including Bedgebury Forest and Pinetum, Hemsted Forest and Angley Woods. It is close to a number of popular National Trust destinations including Bodiam Castle, Scotney Castle, Sissinghurst Castle, Batemans and Knole Park, and is approximately half an hour’s drive from the coastline.

Sissinghurst village is approximately 13 – 15 miles from nearby towns including Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings and Ashford. The school itself is a ten minute drive from Staplehurst train station, which is an hour’s train journey from central London (either direct, or connecting with the high speed rail line via Ashford International).

There is widespread residential development across the area, thriving local businesses and independent retailers, farm shops and eateries. Sissinghurst is a beautiful place to work and the Weald offers something for anyone who chooses to make it home.
