Advert

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Teaching Assistant to join our team at Martello Primary. This is on a fixed term basis until 31/08/2022 as it is linked to Catch Up funding. We are looking for a candidate who is dedicated, patient and caring, to help our children enjoy, learn and achieve success.

Are you...

  • Dedicated?
  • Enthusiastic?
  • A team player?

In return, we can offer...

  • Fabulous children who want to learn
  • Ongoing professional development
  • A school which puts the wellbeing of the staff and pupils first

The successful candidate will work primarily on a 1:1 and 1:2 basis offering targeted academic support to pupils in reading, writing and maths for children who have gaps in their learning as a result of missed schooling. At Martello we recognise the crucial importance of securing strong reading skills at an early age: experience of supporting children in early reading and phonics would be advantageous, though not essential as training will be provided. It would be helpful to have an idea of candidates’ curriculum strengths and experience, so please include this on your application form. We welcome visits to the school and are confident that when you step into our school you will want to be a part of what we do!

Ideally the successful candidate will be able to work 30 hours a week, 8:30am - 3:15pm (45 minute lunch break), though we prioritise finding the right people for our team. If you are interested in the position but not able to commit to these exact hours/times, do give us a call to discuss your personal situation.

We are Martello; we are proud!

For the right candidate, depending on previous experience, skills and qualifications, the salary could be negotiable.

We reserve the right to withdraw the advert if a suitable candidate is found before the close date.

Term time plus INSET days

32.5 hours a week

Information about the school

Martello Primary is a one-form entry school situated in the East Cliff area of Folkestone. It opened to all year groups almost seven years ago and within this time has established strong provision across the school. Being a small primary school means that we are able to maintain a ‘family’ feel to the school and really nurture our children’s needs, both academically and personally. Many children who come to our school are disadvantaged and face challenges which could present barriers to their learning and achievement without the exceptional care of a committed staff team. Links with the local community have brought many opportunities to pupils, including in the wonderful Locavore Community Garden and via our partnership with Books for Change. The staff team has stabilised over the last couple of years, and advantages of being part of a Multi-Academy Trust are now better capitalised upon for the benefit of pupils and staff. There are two other primaries in the Turner Trust; Morehall Primary and Folkestone Primary, both of which are geographically close by. Martello Primary is an exciting place to work, and somewhere you know you can make a positive difference to the lives of young people. Turner Schools is an aspirational MAT which offers excellent school-to-school collaboration and support.

Across Turner Schools we:

Speak and act with care: always show compassion and respect for children.

Act boldly: be ambitious for yourself and the children and young people we serve.

Learn from adversity: be evaluative, thoughtful and reflective.

Challenge convention: be curious, welcome difference and unfamiliar thinking.

Connect with others: support colleagues, parents and pupils to make a great team.

Use your voice: offer different views and ask questions.

Do what it takes: be relentless in pursuing the best for children.

Ask for support: be open and honest when plans go awry.

Don’t give up: be calm, resilient and measured when managing challenges.

Our schools include:

Folkestone Primary

Folkestone Academy

Morehall Primary

Martello Primary

and Turner Free School.

Turner Schools is committed to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare. It expects all staff and volunteers to share this same commitment.
