Teacher of Science

MPS/UPS

September 2022

We are recruiting for a Science Teacher to join our highly successful team and help drive the expansion of the subject across the school. We are looking for a committed practitioner to join our growing team, to promote the values of learning the sciences and inspire a love of all three disciplines in Key Stage 3, before guiding students through the separate and combined elements of the GCSE specifications.

The Malling School is an extremely positive, happy and caring place for young people to learn. We are a small stand-alone foundation school and are very proud of our wonderful students and talented staff. We are fully committed to continually developing our teaching at The Malling School. We have no formal lesson observations and a strong open culture of improving our teaching together through regular low stakes developmental learning walks.

Our strategy to improve outcomes for our students is not through short term unsustainable Y11 intervention but through developing our curriculum together and continually reflecting and improving our daily practice in every classroom for every year group.

We have a very strong behaviour for learning policy. Low-level disruption is not tolerated allowing teachers to do what we do best, teach.

The leadership team ensures that all our improvement strategies are clearly communicated to staff, effectively piloted, evaluated and well thought through. Our key principle when introducing any new initiative is to ensure that there is no unnecessary workload and that it has a high impact on student progress

What we can offer you:

  • Opportunities to teach your specialist subject to GCSE, Level 3 and International Baccalaureate Level
  • Robust behaviour systems
  • Extensive and individualised professional development program that focusses on both pedagogy and subject knowledge
  • A school with outstanding facilities
  • CPD starts as soon as you are appointed

 The successful candidate will be:

  • An excellent teacher of science, with excellent subject knowledge
  • Someone who ensures that every pupil has the best chance to achieve their potential
  • An excellent team player
  • A qualified teacher

To arrange an informal visit please contact the HR Department at hr@themallingschool.kent.sch.uk

The Malling School is committed to the safeguarding and promotion of welfare of all children and young people. All successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS disclosure, Occupational Health check, two satisfactory references and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order (1975, 2013, 2020)

It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

Applications will be considered upon receipt, and we reserve the right to withdraw this vacancy should sufficient interest be received. Only candidates successfully shortlisted for interview will be contacted.

Information about the school

A mixed 11-19 co-educational High School of 1000 pupils serving the historic market town of West Malling and surrounding villages. The school is set in pleasant rural surroundings and has its own lake and extensive grounds. It was completely re-built in September 2007 and therefore has outstanding facilities.

West Malling is close to the county town of Maidstone and has excellent rail links to London and Ashford International (for the Continent).

This is an exciting time to be joining the staff of The Malling School.

Our school is increasingly becoming the first choice school for parents. As a result we are currently oversubscribed. We have robust behavioural systems and Developmental Learning Walks, rather than formal observations. All of which allow a teacher to flourish and do what they do best – teach!

We provide a very supportive environment in which staff can further develop their skills and we ensure every new member of staff has access to a trained coach. With close teams of teachers and non-teachers working together we take a collaborative approach to school improvement and have a shared aim of providing the very best education for our pupils.
