An exciting and challenging opportunity to teach children with complex SEND within a mainstream primary

St John’s requires a KS1 and 2 teacher with a proven track record of quality teaching to join our team on an exciting journey. In addition to teaching children with a range of SEND within a classroom that replicates specialist provision, you will support the SENDCo and provide SEND support across key stage 1 and 2 as directed.


Successful candidates will:

  • Demonstrate excellent classroom practice;
  • Demonstrate a creative approach to curriculum and intervention delivery for children with special educational needs;
  • Have experience of teaching children with autism, adhd, attachment disorder, speech language and communication difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, dyslexia, dyscalculia and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs;
  • Have a passion and commitment to inclusive education;
  • Have a commitment to sharing responsibility for raising standards;
  • Be fully committed to learning from and contributing to a team;
  • Have excellent communication skills to engage children, parents and colleagues;
  • Be very well organised.

Information about the school

In 2024, Ofsted graded St John's as a good school in all areas.

The school, based in the heart of Canterbury, is a larger than average primary school, with two classes in each of Years 1 to 6. The school has provision for Early Years Foundation Stage children, with a nursery and two reception classes. In addition to our teaching team, we have a supportive pastoral team including a Head of Inclusion and Welfare, Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour and Personal Development, SENDCo, EAL Specialist and a FLO. The school is a Church of England voluntary controlled school.
