Information about the school

“A school where children excel and grow in classrooms made of more than just four walls.”

Thornden Wood Primary School is a two form entry Primary School situated on the outskirts of Herne Bay. Formally Briary Primary School, we underwent and exciting re-brand in September 2024 as a springboard to share our re-imagined vision and values with our community. Since then, our school has seen an increase in the number of pupils wishing to attend and we are establishing our reputation as an exceptional provider of education.

Our most recent Ofsted report (Jan 2024) states, “Pupils are thriving at this inclusive, nurturing and successful school. There is a keen sense of community, which results in happy staff and pupils. The school has high expectations and staff create an environment where respect and kindness are commonplace. Each pupil is known as an individual and pupils have strong, trusting relationships with each other and with staff.”

Outdoor learning is fundamental to Thornden Wood; in a world which is getting smaller, we want the primary experience to feel bigger. All our children receive regular opportunities to learn and explore outside through weekly forest school sessions, daily OPAL play, frequent access to our brand new sports field and timetabled care or our school chickens.

Our personal development offer is second to none; we have a whole school award system that sees every pupil experience a multitude of amazing opportunities which will help them to further understand themselves, their community and the world we live in. Our unique partnership with the EKC Group Colleges provides our children with access to specialist environments and facilities, which would not ordinarily be accessible to primary age pupils.

Thornden Wood - Sowing seeds to GROW great minds.
