We are a large inclusive primary school with over 800 pupils and require Teaching Assistants to join our team from November. We are seeking to permanently appoint skilled and enthusiastic individuals to support pupils within a mainstream classroom with all aspects of their education. As we are an inclusive school these roles may involve working with children with physical disabilities, SEMH needs and complex barriers to learning.

The successful candidates will need a wide range of skills to support our children with their communication and interaction, SEMH, cognition and learning, sensory or physical needs. They will also have a genuine desire to ensure the children they support reach their full potential and have a safe, welcoming and positive learning experience.

Previous experience of working with school-age children would be advantageous but we are also open to applications from graduates who may be considering a career in teaching and wish to gain experience in a school environment.

The vacancies are for 30 hours per week (6 hours a day, Monday to Friday including a 30 minute daily lunchtime supervision session). The pay scale is Kent Range 3 at £18,425 per annum for a full-time position, which equates to approximately £12,519 per annum pro rata for these roles. The post holders are required to work for 38 weeks per year (term time only). In addition, the post holders will receive a payment in respect of their pro rata entitlement to Annual Leave appropriate to their grade, Bank Holidays and the KCC concessionary day.

We require a good standard of general education and GCSE qualifications or equivalent in English and Mathematics at Grade C or above. Verification of qualifications will be required before employment can commence so please do not declare any qualifications unless you can produce the original certificate.

A formal 30 minute interview will take place with a panel comprising of members of the Senior Leadership and Management Teams. Candidates will also undertake a 30 minute English and Maths test.

CVs will not be accepted so please complete the application form in full and explain how your skills and experience make you a suitable candidate for the role.

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The interviewee will be asked questions relating to the safeguarding of children.

These posts are subject to an enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and a check against the ISA Barred List for children. All new employees to the School, including those with previous local government service, shall be subject to a 6-month probationary period.

If applicants have not been contacted by 15th October they have been unsuccessful on this occasion.

Information about the school

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery continues to be a ‘Good’ school as recognised in our latest Ofsted inspection (March 2018). The inspection found that staff ‘have an unwavering commitment and determination to provide the best possible experiences for all pupils in a happy, calm and aspirational environment’.

We are a large four form entry school to the west of Margate with approximately 770 pupils. We aim to provide a caring, exciting and inclusive learning environment where every child and family really matters with a focus on raising standards alongside the development of the whole child. The school’s values are Perseverance, Aspiration, Respect and Teamwork and all children are familiar with these. The recent Ofsted visit noted that the values ‘pervade every aspect of the school’s work’, and we are proud that is the case.

We are a school with specialist provision for Physically Disabled pupils and provide a link class with Foreland Fields School.

We are a part of an established Cooperative Trust (Thanet Endeavour Learning Trust), working with Bromstone Primary School and St Mildred’s Primary Infant School. We work closely within our Trust to improve all aspects of our practice, including CPD and support for ECTs. We are also proud to be part of a Federation between our school and Parkside Community Primary School in Canterbury.

Our large site comprises of a KS2 and a KS1 building, three large playgrounds and a school field and we continue to invest heavily in our outdoor learning environment which includes an inclusive play area and sports courts.
