Advert

The Church of England Parish of All Saints, Burham and Wouldham seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced children’s singing teacher to take after-school classes of primary school children to lead to the formation of a children’s choir.

This is an outreach  project to work with children from the two local Church of England primary schools and the two local special schools to introduce them to church choral music and other musical  traditions; for a children’s choir to sing at monthly Sunday morning services and at Christmas, alongside the existing adult choir.

The teacher will work with the children during term-time in a forty-five minute  lesson after school at Wouldham School from autumn 2021 onwards, and introduce them when appropriate to sing at the specially programmed Sunday Family Eucharist once a month and at a Christmas Family Service.

Hopefully, this project will:  strengthen the relationship between the church and its two village Church of England primary schools and two local special schools; connect the church in the community of the new 1,000 house village, Peters Village,  under construction in the parish; enhance the children’s self-esteem and confidence through experiencing the joy of communal singing; and continue the practice of a choral tradition in worship in the 900-year old church.

The successful applicant will be remunerated for an hour a week term-time lesson and a one-an-a-half hour choir session at monthly services and at Christmas. It is envisaged that this project will last initially for two years, subject to review. There will be a six-month probation period for the appointee, who will be expected to be self-employed and appropriately registered for personal tax purposes with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. The church has employment liability insurance.

A Parish Liaison Person would be in attendance at each lesson.

The post will commence as soon as possible and will last initially for up to two years, subject to the applicant completing a six-month probation period satisfactorily. Potential applicants are welcome to discuss the post informally by telephone call to the Rector, the Reverend Mike Hayes, on 07964-697556.
