Every year, we employ a number of Premises Maintenance Operatives (Caretakers) across Leigh Academies Trust within our Primary, Secondary and SEN academies. This pivotal role assists the broader Site Team with the care of the school premises, a range of general maintenance duties within the buildings and the grounds whilst ensuring the security of school premises.

For candidates who would like to gain a nationally recognised qualification, we can also offer the chance for candidates to undertake a Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship via LAT Apprenticeships. If you are a school leaver or new to the profession, this programme will offer you the chance to learn new skills and get ahead in your career. ​​​​​​​

Apprenticeship Summary

Annual wage:  Starting salary £10,000 per annum

Working weeks:  Monday - Friday throughout the full year

Total hours per week (on average): 37 hours per week (including the 20% training element of the Apprenticeship Programme) + holiday allowance

Apprenticeship duration:  12-15 months

Start date: Variable (dependent on employer)

Apprenticeship level:  Level 2

Apprenticeship standard:  Property Maintenance Operative

Future prospects:  This apprenticeship could be the start of a very promising career within the wider property maintenance remit. Completing this apprenticeship programme with its transferable skills will enable progression into roles such as a technical specialist e.g. electrical or plumbing, or continuing as a generalist and working towards supervisory and management roles, e.g. facilities management, across a wide range of sectors.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st September 2023, our Trust comprises 31 geographically organised academies (14 secondaries, 14 primaries and 2 special) educating 20,000 students, and employing 3,000 talented staff.
