West Borough Primary School are looking to appoint a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to work with pupils from Nursery to Year 2 and also to support TAs in class to deliver speech and language programmes.

This Speech and Language Therapy Assistant role is a wonderful opportunity for a Teaching Assistant to develop specialist skills whilst working within a friendly and experienced team.

Speech and Language Therapy Assistant job overview:

  • Speech and Language Therapy Assistant
  • Kent Range 4 - £18,517 - £19, 625 FTE (depending on experience)
  • 3 days per week – term time only
  • Training offered to identify and support children with SCLN
  • Individual training on offer from a qualified Speech and Language Therapist
  • Supported directly by an experienced SENCO
  • Responsible for making guided observations, delivering basic screening assessments, making therapy resources and delivering speech and language therapy programmes
  • Responsible for liaising with the SENCO, Class Teacher and Parents to ensure social and academic support

The ideal candidate for this Speech and Language Therapy Assistant will:

  • Be kind and nurturing with a dedication to meeting the individual needs of children
  • Be keen to learn and expand their knowledge
  • Have good communication skills in order to liaise with other members of staff and parents/carers
  • Be able to work independently and understand the responsibilities and limitations of their role
  • Be able to plan a range of creative tasks to engage the children in their care to aid their speech and language, educational, and social development
  • Have the ability to support and train class based TAs to deliver programmes of support
  • Have an enthusiastic, patient and flexible approach
