We have a wonderful opportunity for someone to join us on either a part time (11.50 - 3pm, or 1.00-3pm) or more full time basis (8.15-3pm with lunch break). Both are term time only.

The key part of the role involves being the afternoon 1:1 support for a delightful young girl, currently in Year 2, who has Down's Syndrome. The young lady's EHCP states that there must be two people working with her on a part time basis. We have a very committed TA who supports her every morning, when they complete a majority of the focused learning.

Whilst our child is chronologically in Year 3, her needs are such that she was deferred entry into the school for a year. She has made fantastic progress over the last two years. She has a very detailed IEP which we follow. However, we also take every opportunity to include her in the wider education delivered in the classroom. We aim to continue this parallel approach.

If you wish to work part time, supporting this young lady in class during the afternoon, you would be supplementing the morning's work. This role could be from 1-3pm, or if you wish, you can start at 11.50 and support her during the lunch break as well.

However, we can also employ someone more full time if this is preferable to the right candidate. We appreciate that someone with the ideal skillset for this girl may only wish full time employment. We can offer this. In the same class, we have another child who is in line with an Autism Spectrum profile. He is a lovely boy, who is progressing well, but he needs 1 to 1 support to further develop his communication and interaction needs. He has difficulty with his expressive and receptive language skills, and we must support him full time in line with his personalised plan and HNF requirements.

We are running a separate advert offering a full time role just supporting this young man. We will adapt our solution to recruit the best person, full time or part time, for both children. The part time position would apply just to our child who has Down's Syndrome. If working full time, you and our existing TA would switch roles in the morning and afternoons, to support both children.

This contract will be linked to our child with Down's Syndrome and employment would continue for as long as she remains at our school. We hope that this will be for the entirety of her primary school life.

The timing of our advert isn't ideal! But needs must. Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to contact the Headteacher by email or telephone to discuss the position. I am available on the school mobile throughout the holidays - 07597710492. We will organise visits to the school for the first week of term 5, so that you can meet us, the children, and see the school. The start date is as soon as possible for the right person.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children. All appointments will be subject to safer recruitment procedures. Enhanced DBS checks are required for this post.

Information about the school

St Peter's is a small, delightful village primary school situated in the beautiful medieval village of Aylesford, housed in a Victorian building and the old vicarage, opposite the village church. We take pride in our caring and supportive attitude to everyone at the school and aim to ensure that the continued professional development of all staff is a priority.

We have classes of 26, all of which are taught by qualified teachers in separate age group classes. These are supported by a sizeable team of Teaching Assistants.

Our ethos is that we aim to develop the child as a whole. We are not focussed on SATs league tables or achieving a judgement of Outstanding from Ofsted. We want to deliver to our pupils the type of rounded education that we would wish for our own children. This means delivering the widest and richest curriculum possible. We aim to provide our children with an education which prepares them for the adult life ahead of them.

Children learn a modern foreign language from Year R and continue to do so throughout their years here. Every Thursday is a Creative Day, when we only teach art, music, MFL and PE. Education is not about focussing your efforts on achieving the highest possible SATs grades; real education is about providing our children with the best possible teaching and the widest possible curriculum.

We want our children to be both supported, and to be shown that it is quite alright to take a chance and to fail. They must learn that being taken out of their comfort zone is exciting and not frightening. We are preparing our children for life, not a test. But if we do so professionally, with high quality teaching, then they will succeed in tests as best as they are able, as well as being fully prepared for the life which awaits them.

We have a small team of dedicated staff who love their school and work extremely hard to ensure that our children receive the best possible education. We support each other and appreciate each other's strengths. This is a friendly and supportive environment and we welcome like minded individuals who wish to join us.
