Frewen College is a leading dyslexia specialist school, with 130 students+, based in East Sussex.
This post is due to an internal promotion and will start September 2021. The Head of English and Literacy will lead the development of English in the Senior School and Literacy across the whole school and manage the day to day operation of the English Department.
The successful candidate will work with the Vice Principal, Head of Prep, Head of Sixth Form, and the Head of Seniors, to ensure that students are happy, safe, and making good progress, in order to fulfil their potential, both in school and beyond.
Frewen College is an independent co-educational day and boarding school owned by an educational trust. We specialise
in supporting young people aged from 7 to 19 whose education has been adversely affected by specific learning difficulties, namely dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, or speech and language difficulties.
The school is based at Northiam on the Kent/ Sussex borders in a Grade 1 listed Jacobean country house, in listed gardens and with extensive grounds. Originally founded in 1910 we believe we are the oldest such school in the world. Although very small (currently 127 pupils) we have excellent facilities and pupil numbers are increasing. Two thirds of pupils are Local Authority funded; others are MOD funded or private, including a number from overseas. Our Sixth Form was established in 2014, in partnership with Bexhill Sixth Form College.
Most of our classroom staff come to us from the mainstream maintained sector; few have pre-existing specialist qualifications but we provide access to specialist training and qualifications.
