We are a large inclusive primary school with over 800 pupils with a rising roll and so we require an additional temporary Teaching Assistant to join our team from November. We are seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic individual to support pupils within a mainstream classroom with all aspects of their education.

The successful candidates will have a wide range of skills to support children with their communication and interaction, SEMH, cognition and learning, sensory or physical needs. They will also have a genuine desire to ensure the children they support reach their full potential and have a safe, welcoming and positive experience in the classroom.

Previous experience of working with school-age children would be advantageous but we are also open to applications from graduates who may be considering a career in teaching and wish to gain experience in a school environment.

The post is for 30 hours per week (6 hours a day, Monday to Friday including daily lunchtime supervision) and term time only. The pay scale is Kent Range 3 at £18,039 per annum for a full-time position which equates to approximately £12,257 per annum pro rata for this role. The postholder is required to work for 38 weeks per year. In addition, the postholder will receive a payment in respect of their pro rata entitlement to Annual Leave appropriate to their grade, Bank Holidays and the KCC concessionary day.

We require a good standard of general education and GCSE qualifications or equivalent in English and Mathematics at Grade C or above. Verification of qualifications will be required before employment can commence so please do not declare any qualifications unless you can produce the original certificate.

A formal interview will take place with a panel comprising of members of the Senior Leadership Team and will last approximately thirty minutes. Candidates will also undertake a thirty minute English and Maths test.

CVs will not be accepted so please complete the application form in full and explain how your skills and experience make you a suitable candidate for the role.

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and check against the ISA Barred List for children.

If applicants have not been contacted by 16 September they have been unsuccessful on this occasion.

Information about the school

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery continues to be a ‘Good’ school as recognised in our latest Ofsted inspection (March 2018). The inspection found that staff ‘have an unwavering commitment and determination to provide the best possible experiences for all pupils in a happy, calm and aspirational environment’.

We are a large four form entry school to the west of Margate with approximately 800 pupils. We aim to provide a caring, exciting and inclusive learning environment where every child and family really matters with a focus on raising standards alongside the development of the whole child. The school’s values are Perseverance, Aspiration, Respect and Teamwork and all children are familiar with these. The recent Ofsted visit noted that the values ‘pervade every aspect of the school’s work’, and we are proud that is the case.

We are a school with specialist provision for Physically Disabled pupils and provide a link class with Foreland Fields School.

We are a part of an established Cooperative Trust (Thanet Endeavour Learning Trust), working with Bromstone Primary School and St Mildred’s Primary Infant School. We work closely within our trust to improve all aspects of our practice, including CPD and support for NQTs. We are also proud to be part of a Federation between our school and Parkside Community Primary School in Canterbury.

Our large site comprises of a KS2 and a KS1 building, three large playgrounds and a school field and we continue to invest heavily in our outdoor learning environment which includes an inclusive play area and sports courts.

We inspire, respect and celebrate achievement and diversity.
