Teaching Assistant – Key Stage 1/2

Speldhurst Church of England Primary School is looking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who has the ability to inspire, motivate and support our wonderful pupils.

Speldhurst is an Outstanding school and this is a great opportunity to join our happy and motivated team. The school has a strong Christian ethos and is at the heart of the Speldhurst community.

We are looking for an experienced classroom assistant or HLTA who can hit the ground running in September to support our children when they return to school full-time. You will have experience both in the classroom, with small groups and individuals is essential. The ability to cover class for short periods of time would be a great advantage. The post is term-time only, 30 hours per week. Experience in running interventions, speech and language and social and communication groups would be an advantage. Strong literacy and numeracy skills are essential. 

The ideal candidate will be a well organised practitioner who is able to use their own initiative and also be able to work as part of a team. You will be flexible in your approach, completely reliable and always enthusiastic and positive.

Having a working knowledge of the National Curriculum at KS1 and KS2 would be a great advantage. Empathy and an ability to establish good working relationships with staff, parents and pupils are essential.

Necessary Experience:

  • Good standard of education with strong Literacy and Numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths essential)
  • Strong ICT skills
  • The ability to take responsibility for small intervention groups and, on occasion, whole classes for short periods of time is required.
  • Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable Experience:  

  • Previous experience as an HLTA/TA or Teacher
  • Knowledge of specific SEN programmes such as BEAM, Cartouche, Early Bird etc
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Ability to run an after-school club
  • Artistic/display ability

Teaching Assistant Level 3

HLTA

Degree in Early Childhood Studies/Education

Teaching Qualification

Experience as a KS1/KS2 Teaching Assistant

Visits to the school are encouraged
