Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Salary:  Grade 2 Paypoints 6-10 £13,828 - £15,876

Location:  Parkview Academy, Welling

Contract type:  Full Time, Term Time Only

Parkview Academy is experiencing an exciting time as we are growing both in numbers of pupils and in our positive reputation. Our school provides continuity in learning for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans. We are a short to long term provision for 40 learners who are on the autistic spectrum or who have other special educational needs and challenging behaviour. We cater for young people aged between 7 and 19.

The overarching purpose of our provision is to work with young people so that they are able to overcome the barriers to learning that they have previously encountered. We aim to offer flexible, structured and supportive needs led approaches with the goal of working towards re-integration progression to a long term educational setting or into employment, education and training.

We are looking for LSA’s to work as part of a team in supporting and guiding learners with special educational needs and challenging behaviour in both individual and small group learning sessions. The post holder may work with primary, secondary or Post 16 learners to support and assist them in establishing good attendance, positive relationships, routine, trust and respect and support teaching and learning with the school.

There are opportunities for a visit or an informal chat before applying– Please contact Richard Johnson: telephone number 0203 137 3630 (option 2)

Information about the school

ALP Schools aims to create flexible, individualised programmes of learning support for young people who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to access mainstream education.

From the point of referral, we focus on the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) of the learner and on family support, in order to provide the most effective and appropriate educational intervention.

Working closely with the Local Authorities and local colleges, schools and academies we provide outcomes that are in accordance with the individual needs of each learner. We specialise in emergency, short, medium and long term education placements of young people with SEND including (but not limited to) Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties, challenging behaviour and mental health difficulties.

Our overall aim is to reintegrate or progress learners into suitable, long term education, training or employment. To achieve this, ALP Schools provides a more informal and nurturing approach to teaching and learning where dedicated tutors develop a close working relationship with the learners and their families.
