Vocational Tutor

Salary: Grade Grade 5 pay point 14 to 17 £19,949 to £20,486

Location:  Pierview Academy, Gravesend

Contract type:  Full Time, term time only

Pierview Academy is on a journey to become a “Good” school. This is an exciting time as we are growing both in numbers of pupils and in our positive reputation.

Pierview Academy provides continuity in learning for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans. We are a short, medium and long-term provision for learners on the autistic spectrum or who have other special educational needs and challenging behaviour. We cater for young people in their secondary and post-16 school years. The overarching purpose of our provision is to work with learners so that they are able to overcome the barriers to learning that they have previously encountered. We aim to offer flexible, structured and supportive needs led approaches.

We are looking for somebody who will  lead tuition for our vocational qualifications. Ideally this will be both construction and mechanics but other vocational subjects will be considered. The post holder will ensure high quality teaching and learning of vocational learning over a range of units and levels. These will be taught to young people aged between 11 and 25 who have a variety of special educational needs and challenging behaviours. Aside from teaching and learning activities the post holder will support the Premises Manager to maintain and develop the school environment to ensure it is fit for purpose, inviting and well maintained.

Information about the school

Parkview Academy is an Independent Special Needs School for young people aged between 6 and 19 with an Education Health Care Plan. We are Ofsted registered and cater to 50 young people who have struggled in mainstream education due to their special educational needs.

Our unique selling point is that we offer small classes or one-to-one learning where the curriculum is tailored to the needs of the individual. We also recognise the importance of building up routines, relationships, respect, and trust to achieve successful teaching and learning.

The school is based on Park View Road, opposite Welling United Football Club. We are also very close to Danson Park and Crook Log Leisure Centre which the school uses to provide a range of sports and recreation activities. The school benefits from several unique learning spaces. Downstairs we have our Life Skills Suite and sixth form area. Upstairs the school is separated into key stages along with having a drama studio, practical kitchen space, library, and media suite where learners have the opportunity to learn DJ and digital music skills as well as contribute towards the school’s radio station.

Parkview Academy ensures that all learners work towards a Foundation Learning Curriculum. This ensures that each individualised timetable includes as a minimum core skills in English, maths and ICT, Vocational Learning, and Personal and Social development.
