Oakley School is the district, Special School for pupils, aged from 2 to 18 years, all of whom have severe and/or complex needs, with communication and learning difficulties.

We are seeking a dynamic, flexible and responsive Learning Support Cover Assistant (our equivalent of a Higher Level Teaching Assistant) to join our friendly, positive and forward looking team.  The postholder will primarily be based at our Tunbridge Wells site, but must also be prepared to travel to, and work at, our Tonbridge site.

The role will involve providing teaching cover for short term teacher absence throughout the site (Reception to KS4) as well as working closely with the teaching staff to support our pupils in all aspects of their learning, social development, personal needs and developing their skills for life and independence.  

We are looking for someone with relevant experience and expertise and a degree or relevant NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent, who can demonstrate good teaching and learning experience and skills, to cover the teaching in a range of lessons and subjects.  Experience of working in a Special Needs environment would be an advantage, but is not essential as full induction and training will be given.

The hours are 35 per week, working Monday to Friday, term time only.  The salary is within Kent Range Band 5 (£18,704 to £20,121) and reduced pro-rata for the hours/weeks actually worked, plus £1,274 per annum SEN allowance.

Information about the school

Oakley School is the Tunbridge Wells District Special School for day pupils, aged from 3 to 19 years, with a specialist Observation and Assessment Nursery for 3-5 years. All our children and young people have profound, severe/complex needs and communication and learning difficulties.

We have a site in Tonbridge which caters for our Phase 4 (16+) students and a site in Tunbridge Wells which caters for children and young people from the age of 3 to 16. We also have a satellite provision at Skinners' Kent Primary School. Our one-day Section 8 OFSTED inspection in March 2019 reaffirmed us as 'Good'. We aspire to be outstanding in all that we do.
