We are looking to recruit a part-time Community & Family Engagement Co-ordinator to join our friendly, positive and forward thinking team, who have the children and young people at the heart of everything they do.

Working across all Oakely sites, the postholder will:-

  1. Encourage, promote and enable parents and carers to engage with Oakley School to further the learning of their child/children.
  2. Co-ordinate and support parent and carer events and training throughout the academic year.
  3. Provide relevant guidance and information to Oakley School families, in collaboration with external agencies and organisations.
  4. Pro-actively seek opportunities to enhance our pupils' learning and the provision at Oakley School with existing and new community based partners and collaborators locally, nationally and internationally.
  5. Develop the school's profile within the community and with partners in order that Oakley pupils are respected, valued and able to engage fully in their community.
  6. Pro-actively seek additional sources of funding to achieve the school's planned developments through relevant grant applications, PR, Marketing and direct approaches to appropriate organisations.

The successful candidate will need 3+ years proven experience and a successful track record of working to support children and families in the public, education, voluntary or charity sectors.  Excellent interpersonal, organisation and communication skills are also essential requirements.

The post is 21 hours per week, working 3 days per week, term time only, plus one additional week to be worked flexibly outside of normal working hours.  The salary is within Kent Range Bands 6 to 7, £19,864 to £24,790 per annum (depending on skills and experience), and reduced pro-rata for the hours/weeks actually worked.

Information about the school

Oakley School is the Tunbridge Wells District Special School for day pupils, aged from 3 to 19 years, with a specialist Observation and Assessment Nursery for 3-5 years. All our children and young people have profound, severe/complex needs and communication and learning difficulties.

We have a site in Tonbridge which caters for our Phase 4 (16+) students and a site in Tunbridge Wells which caters for children and young people from the age of 3 to 16. We also have a satellite provision at Skinners' Kent Primary School. Our one-day Section 8 OFSTED inspection in March 2019 reaffirmed us as 'Good'. We aspire to be outstanding in all that we do.
