Advert

We are seeking to recruit Learning Support Assistants to join our friendly, positive and forward looking team at our Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells sites.

As a Learning Support Assistant you would work closely with the teaching staff to support our pupils in all aspects of their learning, social development, personal needs and developing their skills for life and independence.  In this role you will be able to make a big difference to our children and young people, all of whom have a wide range of severe and/or complex needs, with communication and learning difficulties.

Candidates do not need experience of working in a special needs or education environment, although it would be advantageous, as would experience of Early Years. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills are essential, along with flexibility, resilience and strong communication and team working skills.

There are many career development opportunities for those interested in progression, including into teaching and other types of work with children and young people.

The hours are 33.5 per week, working Monday to Friday, term time only.  The salary is within Kent Range Bands 3 to 4, £16,885 to £19,315 (including SEN allowance) per annum (depending on qualifications and experience), and reduced pro rata for the hours/weeks actually worked.

Information about the school

Oakley School is the Tunbridge Wells District Special School for day pupils, aged from 3 to 19 years, with a specialist Observation and Assessment Nursery for 3-5 years. All our children and young people have profound, severe/complex needs and communication and learning difficulties.

We have a site in Tonbridge which caters for our Phase 4 (16+) students and a site in Tunbridge Wells which caters for children and young people from the age of 3 to 16. We also have a satellite provision at Skinners' Kent Primary School. Our one-day Section 8 OFSTED inspection in March 2019 reaffirmed us as 'Good'. We aspire to be outstanding in all that we do.
