Do you have experience preparing and serving meals and would enjoy catering for up to 300 hungry pupils a day?

Halfway Houses Primary School currently has a vacancy for a Head Cook to start as soon as possible. Sadly, we are saying goodbye to our current Head Cook and it is our intention to offer full training for this exciting and challenging position through a handover period before she leaves. You will also benefit from the support of an established team of 4 kitchen staff and our great new kitchen and catering facilities.

The successful applicant will be required to work 25 hours per week (8.30am - 1.30pm Monday - Friday, term-time only - 38 weeks of the year). Meals are prepared on site and serving begins at 12.10pm over 2 sittings.

The salary will be Kent Range 4 £17,189 - £18,058pa pro-rata  (full-time equivalent £9,577 - £10,061pa).

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Be experienced in ordering ingredients, preparing and serving food (essential)
  • Be able to work in a school kitchen, using catering equipment and leave the environment clean after every session (essential)
  • Have a desire to serve good quality food to children, in line with government legislation
  • Be someone who enjoys working with children
  • Have or be prepared to gain relevant qualifications e.g. Level 2 Award in Food Safety and be willing to work towards Level 3
  • Be a good team player, flexible and prepared to use their initiative
  • Be prepared to work independently and also lead a team of 4 staff
  • Be committed to their own professional development
  • Have good interpersonal and organisational skills

Sunny Bank Primary School in Sittingbourne joined TILT in February 2020 under a sponsorship arrangement and significant all round improvement has been made with the support of the MAT.
