HLTA Pupil Personal Development and Behaviour

(KR7, 32.5 hours per week, term time only)

£15,943 - £18,139 + SENA £1,241  (Pro rata to£21,510-£24,472)

We are looking for an experienced, highly skilled practitioner to join our Personal Development and Behaviour Support Team and enhance our provision here at Elms School.  Candidates will need to demonstrate a commitment to the school’s vision and ethos. 

All our pupils have significant difficulties with managing their emotions and behaviour and they require specialist help with their personal development.  The successful candidates will be expected to listen to pupils and support them emotionally so that they can engage in learning.  Previous experience of working with children or adults with challenging behaviours is essential.  You will need to be emotionally resilient with a good sense of humour and an understanding of SEMH needs.  The successful candidate will have experience of working with either children or adults with challenging behaviours.  Knowledge of Restorative Approaches and Team Teach is desirable. 

At Elms, we use de-escalation techniques to calm our pupils and support them with their emotions.  However, there are times when it is necessary to positively handle pupils using our approved programme and the successful candidate will need to be physically fit and strong to carry out this aspect of the role.

A willingness to work beyond the school day when required is essential.

Candidates need to possess a minimum of GCSE grade C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).

Information about the school

Elms School is a special day school for children with social, emotional, mental health and learning difficulties. Many of our pupils have ASD, ADHD or other difficulties such as attachment difficulties. The school has a mixed roll of 120 students between the ages of 6 and 16.

The school has been assessed as Good following the latest Ofsted inspection. The most recent inspection report was published in November 2017. At Elms we combine academic success with a therapeutic, nurturing approach in order to best support the learning and emotional needs of our pupils.

We have a large team, including our transport team who bring the pupils to and from school in our fleet of MPVs.
