Information about the school

The Skinners' School is an outstanding boys' grammar school with 1,120 pupils.

Skinners’ is renowned for its sport, and the enthusiasm of its pupils is extraordinary. The school competes at a high level in a huge array of sports, from the traditional – rugby, hockey, cricket, tennis, cross-country running and athletics – to a significant number of indoor sports – basketball, badminton, table tennis, handball and swimming. Team sports therefore abound and it is not unusual, for example, for the school to put out over 20 rugby teams at the weekend. Nevertheless, there remains untapped potential and we are looking for someone who will help drive further development of our provision at both elite and participant level. The extra-curricular life of the school is a key aspect of this role: involvement at weekends and willingness to participate in and organise tours both locally and abroad is critical.

Our core PE curriculum runs from Years 7 to 11 and follows a curriculum that exposes all pupils to wide array of sports, and to the key principles of sports science and healthy living. We now run GCSE PE and a good number or students train to be Sports Leaders in the Sixth Form. Again, there is further potential to develop in our pupils a cutting edge understanding of the role of sport and exercise in the 21st Century.

The school is blessed with a superb sports hall that is exceptionally well-equipped, also housing an outstanding fitness suite and weights/spinning room, as well as a classroom. Just outside sits an astroturf area that accommodates three tennis courts and a small hockey pitch. 20 acres of sports pitches are a short walk from the school and every year group has a games afternoon once a week: Southfields comprises five rugby pitches, three cricket grounds and a football pitch.

The successful applicant will be required to teach PE at Key Stages 3 and 4 from the outset. (S)he will also need to offer significant expertise at one of our major sports.
