Job title: Science Technician

KR 3 – (£15,253 - £16,967) full time

                          Term Time only, 38 weeks – pro rota (£12,703.84)

 

JOB PURPOSE:      To provide technical support to the science department.

To ensure effective administration on technical areas in science.

To ensure science equipment is in best serviceable order.

To maintain stock reagents.

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:      Head of Science Department

 MAIN DUTIES:

  1. To assist with effective practical class experiments.
  2. To assist with all reasonable requests by the Head of Department and Science staff.
  3. To have knowledge of current safety requirements.
  4. To implement current safety regulations.
  5. To assist with safe/secure storage and disposal of materials
  6. To advise teaching staff and others of any potential health and safety hazards.
  7. To ensure safety, and safe usage, of elements such as fume cupboards.
  8. Use of computing technology to:(ii)         maintain asset registers of all equipment.
  9. (iii)        assist staff in photocopying, scanning, and printing or materials
  10. (i)         maintain a register of all incidents involving safety or damage.
  11. To assist in the delivery of practical sessions in the laboratory from time to time as directed by Head of Department.
  12. To ensure preparation and delivery of apparatus to science staff, given prior notice; to supply written check lists and safety notices with equipment and to check returned equipment (maintaining records of damage/repair).
  13. To ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained and stored appropriately after usage.
  14. To ensure the maintenance of the general fabric of furnishings and fittings of laboratories, by inspection and report.
  15. To be alert to the Health and Safety of the working environment and to advise the head of department of any health and safety concerns.
  16. To participate in the school's annual system of performance management.
  17. To undertake any other reasonable duties as may be deemed necessary by the line manager and/or Headteacher.
