Are you looking for a career and a profession instead of just a teaching job? Perhaps you are considering expanding your practice in order to diversify your teaching expertise? Are you looking for your first teaching job in Science? Looking for a supportive and friendly department that cares about their staff and provides bespoke professional development? We are looking for a Teacher of Science, possibly specialising in Chemistry.

What can we offer you?

As a school that has successfully embedded the new curricula across all core subjects, we offer a comprehensive teaching experience. We are a school that seeks to invest in the professional advancement and personal well-being of all our staff, and as such we are able to offer you a new teaching experience that will help you to advance your career. We have a proven track record of nurturing and supporting NQTs, many of whom are still with us.

What will we want you to offer us?

We look to appoint staff who are ready for the next challenge in their career, have a zeal for their subject in keeping their knowledge up to date, and who are driven and dedicated to nurturing our young people in order to foster in them academic and personal excellence.

Context of the School

We are a community school that Ofsted graded as ‘Good’ in our last inspection and that has a largely comprehensive intake. As we have our own sixth form, we offer curriculum across all three key stages. We offer the EPQ in year 13, which allows all staff to opt to support KS5 curriculum regardless of timetable and subject specialism. We are a wholly inclusive school and cater for the full ability range of the students in our locality, finding opportunities to develop the demographic that we serve. We benefit from having superb facilities across the school including such elements as a theatre, cinema, recording studio, sports arena and award winning learning resource centre.

Science is central to the school’s commitment to ensuring high quality learning across the curriculum. We have excellent Science facilities including 8 dedicated fully equipped labs, a large break out space and a dedicated computer area. Most importantly, you would be joining an enthusiastic and supportive team of staff, including both experienced and developing teachers and excellent technicians.

If you feel that this is the place for you please apply.

Please do not apply for this position unless you are as committed to safeguarding, the prevention of extremism and radicalisation; and promoting the welfare of children as we are at Herne Bay High School.  Applicants must be willing to undergo comprehensive child protection screening including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service. The above position includes membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Information about the school

Herne Bay High School is a large hugely successful Single Academy Trust that serves the Herne Bay coastal area of North Kent. We have a comprehensive intake and are significantly oversubscribed in all year groups and in June 2022 Ofsted rated the school good with an Outstanding 6th form provision. Whilst academic rigour and examination success is at the forefront of our development, we passionately believe that a broad, balanced approach to education is important and as such we place great emphasis on the Creative and Performing Arts, Technology, and Sport as a key part of a young person’s early educational journey. Herne Bay High School is also a champion of collaborative practice, with current memberships to the East Kent Learning Alliance (EKLA), East Kent Schools Together Network (EKST), and the Coastal Alliance Co-Operative Trust (CACOT). Due to continual growth, we are looking to recruit a passionate, enthusiastic and dedicated leader, who can contribute to the continued development of the school. All staff joining HBHS will benefit from • High quality personalised professional development • Fantastic career opportunities • Full programme of induction and support • Being part of a school that values it employees • Complimentary Benenden Health Care
