Children are happy and confident.  Education and values are well taught.  Safe environment and children well cared for.  Real family values.

Parental Questionnaire, October 2016

This opportunity isn’t just a job – it’s a way of life.  Ours is an amazing school – lively children, an exciting curriculum and a staffroom full of laughter.

Our Deputy Headteacher has just been promoted to Headteacher, following the retirement of the existing Head, so we are looking for a practising Catholic with outstanding leadership skills to join our dedicated staff on the journey from Good to Even Better!

If you can demonstrate a track record of consistently good or better teaching, together with recent leadership/middle leadership experience and personal qualities that include high expectations, positivity and a genuine love of the children in your care, then this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

Currently the role is for a Deputy with two days a week in class and three days out of class - the salary will be in the range £45,742 to £50,474.

Close to France, within easy reach of London via the High Speed train, and a short drive away from historic Canterbury, Folkestone has a great deal to offer.

The community we work with is rich and varied – overlapping circles of family, parish and the wider Folkestone area.

The school works closely with the local parish, establishing strong links with the community and contributing well to the life of the Church.

Our parents are strongly supportive of the school – in a recent survey 100% of parents said they would recommend the school to others.  They work closely with us in the best interests of the children, and together we combat some of the barriers to learning that the children bring with them into school.

The staff team works tirelessly to meet the challenges of everyday life at school.  Lively children are hard work but very rewarding, too, and everyone knows that the more you put in, the more you get out.

The children make us laugh, and they make us cry, but above all they make us incredibly proud of them.

If ours is a way of life you want to be part of, and if you’ve got the drive and resilience to keep working at improving what we do, then this is a unique opportunity to make a mark in our lively, lovely school.  But be warned – Stella Maris gets under your skin!

Applications should be made using the Catholic Education Service Senior Leadership Application Form, which will appear when applicants click the 'Apply Now' button.  (The form should be saved to your own computer, completed, printed, signed and returned to the Headteacher at the school.)

Information about the school

Stella Maris is a happy, family school that was judged to be ‘Good’ in every category by Ofsted in June 2023 and achieved 'Outstanding' in our RE Inspection in March 2023. We are a one-form entry Catholic Primary School, serving children from all over the Folkestone and Cheriton area.

We are an Academy and part of the Kent Catholic Schools’ Partnership. This allows us to work closely with other schools, sharing and learning from each other to continuously improve outcomes for all our staff and children.

We offer an exciting, stimulating curriculum and staff enjoy some outstanding CPD opportunities. We are lucky enough to be set in beautiful surroundings with lots of outside space with a woodland trail and fire pit area. We are nestled next to Lower Radnor Park, in close proximity to Folkestone Sports Centre. We have a warm, welcoming ethos, a problem-solving approach, and high expectations of all our children and staff.
