Advert

An opportunity has become available to work as class teacher initally on a fixed term contract covering maternity leave in our mixed Year 1 and Early Years class in a wonderfully unique environment. Shipbourne School is a small village school on the outskirts of Tonbridge, which has 59 children on roll. At present the class consists of 7 pupils in Reception, and 8 in year 1, and the school is rated good with outstanding behaviour and safety by Ofsted (2015).

We are looking for a highly motivated, committed professional to join the small team of dedicated staff and would consider experienced teachers as well as NQT’s.

Our children deserve an inspirational, innovative practitioner who will understand the needs of the individual child, allowing all pupils opportunities to learn independently. The successful candidate would be a class teacher who understands both the Early Years curriculum as well as the National Curriculum for Key Stage One, and who can provide excellent phonics teaching as well as ensuring the ongoing progress of all children. You would fullfill the responsibilities set out in the school teachers’ pay and conditions document.

The position would start in September 2017, although could be available sooner, which would enable the opportunity to engage in our transition days in the summer term.

Main responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the effective and efficient management and organisation of learning resources

  2. Oversee the maintenance of records used by Early Years’ staff.

  3. Create and keep up to date the Foundation Stage Profile.

  4. Look at FSP results to see any areas that children are not achieving and areas where children are achieving well.

  5. Liaising with nursery and playgroups locally with the Headteacher.

  6. To attend training for Early Years and Key stage 1 and moderation meetings

  7. Keep up to date with local and national initiatives and incorporate them into our environment as appropriate.

  8. Work with outside agencies when required

Visits to the school are both welcomed and encouraged and can be made by telephoning Mrs Cherry Headon on 01732 810344.

Closing date Friday 24th February 2017 at noon.

Information about the school

Our unique school is situated in the beautiful countryside of Kent, nestling at the bottom of Stumble Hill in Shipbourne village. It is a small school which has served the community since 1852. We have the capacity for approximately 60 pupils, most of whom children come from the immediate vicinity and further afield from villages, such as Hadlow and Plaxtol, as well as Tonbridge.

Our school is a nurturing environment where children are not afraid to take risks on the way to becoming life-long learners. Everything we do is centred on our school values, resulting in an engaging curriculum that prepares children for more than just their next academic step. We are supported by a highly valued community of parents and governors, have a track record of strong attainment and provide a programme of tailor-made professional development to ensure every member of staff reaches their true potential to the benefit of our children. The school has a very active PTA which supports the school in a range of ways to raise money to help us meet the changing demands of life in the 21st century, whilst still retaining the intimate nature of our small school.

The school is currently organised into three classes. Our unique setting and school structure allow for focused teaching to meet the ability and personality of each child; staff get to know pupils quickly and tailor their lessons to facilitate effective learning for all. We take great pride in our nurturing environment and everyone is treated as part of a family: all lives are enriched through sharing and collaborating as we prepare the children for an exciting future in which they can be both independent and aware of the feelings and needs of others.
