Teachers of Science – April 2017 and September 2017

Wye School opened in September 2013 with a single intake of Year 7 students.  This September we welcomed our fourth year’s intake and are currently preparing our first GCSE cohort for examinations in 2018.  This is a comprehensive (all ability) school with a profile of around 85% of students estimated to achieve at least 5A*-C with English and Mathematics, based on entry scores.  In June 2015, Ofsted praised our ‘very vibrant and strong leadership ..clear and aspirational vision,’ and ‘high level of ambition for the students and the school.’  We are heavily over-subscribed and are only interested in appointing people who actually like young people and the challenges of teaching them. We welcome applications from candidates with varying degrees of experience, including NQTs.

We are now looking to add further Teachers of Science to our close-knit team of dedicated and dynamic teaching staff. We want to appoint an in-year candidate for April 2017 and another for September 2017, preferably with a specialism in Physics or Biology but applicants from all science disciplines will be considered.  The school will be expanding to include a sixth form in September 2018 which means that this is a very exciting time to be joining this innovative institution. Because we are growing year by year, this post is being advertised in conjunction with a range of other posts across various subject areas and you can see details of these on the website. http://www.wyeschool.org.uk/Staff/Vacancies.

In Science you will join a highly skilled and vastly experienced team of practitioners.  Schemes of learning lead to AQA GCSEs in both separate sciences and combined Double Award.  In the current Year 10 a third of students are following the more challenging triple qualification which reflects the ability profile of our students. Science has a strong enrichment programme, including trips to Wildwood, the Big Bang Festival and the Salters Chemistry Festival. We took students to the Houses of Parliament for the launch of the Space to Earth Challenge and annually we commemorate British Science Week through primary Gifted and Talented events and a series of inspiring workshops. In addition, we offer a range of other opportunities, including the Crest Award.

Wye School works closely with Ashford School (Independent School of the Year in 2011), in a model of state-independent school partnership unique to United Learning. We are a small, establishing school and this appointment would give you the exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of developing the curriculum, resources and strategy within your subject area and the wider school.

Applications for all posts will be considered on receipt. Suitable candidates will be interviewed on receipt of application and Wye School reserves the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.

Information about the school

Wye School has a vision of excellence, a vision shared by all staff and students. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2018, the school is dedicated to ensuring each student gains the knowledge, confidence and skills to make a success of their future lives. The school caters for Years 7 -13 with a roll of 600, housed in a new building situated in the beautiful Kent Downs countryside, offering an outstanding environment for staff and students. The first GCSE results in 2018 were above average for Progress 8 and above national average Attainment 8, and followed by an equally strong second set of results in 2019. Students are well behaved and hard working and our staff form a friendly and committed team. As the smallest local secondary school, great pride is taken in strong relationships internally and with parents and the community.

Located within close proximity of Wye village centre, the school is at the very heart of the local community and has the potential to grow into a truly exceptional school. Wye is perfectly located to enjoy the Kent countryside, whilst still being within an hour of London thanks to HS1.
