Science  and Technology Faculty Technician

Kent Range 3:  37 hours per week (190 days per academic year)

Co-ordinate the use and maintenance of practical resources and facilities and provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the science and technology curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

 Technology:

  1. To be responsible for the daily maintenance of all equipment in the faculty.
  2. To arrange maintenance checks and repairs of equipment.
  3. To be responsible for the oversight of the general condition of the faculty and storerooms.
  4. To support the teaching staff through the preparation of resources for lessons.
  5. To support students in the various work processes through the preparation of materials in liaison with the class teacher.
  6. To ensure efficient stock control and work with staff to apply “best value” principles to the ordering of resources.
  7. To follow and promote standard Health and Safety regulations.
  8. To foster an eco-friendly approach when using materials, notably in relation to recycling.

 

Science:

  1. Prepare solutions and assemble apparatus in order to ensure that the correct resources are available for practical lessons.
  2. Deliver equipment to classes and collect, check and return equipment to the stores to ensure that it is safely, securely and appropriately stored.
  3. Carry out maintenance checks and arrange for repairs as necessary to ensure that all equipment is safe and ready to use in lessons.
  4. Undertake stock checks and ensures that all chemicals are stored safely and secure to ensure the health and safety of students and staff in the school.
  5. Perform health and safety checks and ensure equipment and laboratories are clean and tidy in order maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment for students.
  6. Provide information for students and teachers on the correct way to handle equipment and chemicals in order to avoid accidents and/or damage to equipment.
  7. Assist with demonstrations on how to use equipment and provide technical support to students and teachers (experienced and trainees) including health and safety advice to ensure that correct procedures are adhered to at all times.

  1. Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  2. To contribute to overall ethos, work and mission statement of the school.
  3. To undertake broadly similar duties commensurate with the level of the post as required by the Head of School.
  4. Participate in the school’s appraisal process.
