Health and Welfare Support Manager required for immediate or October start.  Term time only.

Responsible for:  Supporting the pastoral care and welfare of students 

Before school/break time/lunch time/after school: 

  1. To be responsible for the administration and operating procedures of the medical centre.
  2. To administer basic first aid as required to students and staff.
  3. To keep accurate records of medical and first aid procedures and interventions.
  4. To keep the medical room and first aid boxes around school supplied and up to date.
  5. To liaise with Community School Nurses and other specialist nurses as appropriate.
  6. To support students who have been absent for medical reasons. 

During lesson time: 

  1. To work with the Head of Foundation Learning to develop and implement appropriate 1:1 and/or small group interventions around behaviour and mental health needs.
  2. To liaise with relevant staff to monitor and understand the needs of individual students and ways to effectively meet those needs.
  3. To provide 1:1 mentoring to individual students with behaviour and/or mental health needs for up to 10 weeks, as identified through the school Support Request system and allocated by the Head of Foundation Learning.
  4. To provide group intervention sessions to identified groups of students with self-esteem, anger management or anxiety issues.
  5. To monitor the effectiveness of support given and provide detailed records of the content and impact of the intervention provided.
  6. To deliver healthcare courses. 

PSHE and Focus Day input: 

  • To work with the Assistant Headteacher responsible for Focus Days to plan content and inputs appropriate to each year group.
  • To develop and deliver age appropriate input and resources for Focus Day and PSHE sessions, particularly focusing on Drugs, Sex and Relationship Education and Sexuality.
  • To deliver assemblies to Year Groups focused on identified PSHE topics.
  • To provide CPD input to staff on the issues identified above as appropriate.
  • To support the Head of Foundation Learning and the Assistant Headteacher responsible for Focus Days to raise staff and student awareness of Mental Health needs.
  • To provide after school extra-curricular group activities for identified students to support their social, emotional and mental health needs. 

General:

  1. To refer students to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Headteacher as appropriate.
  2. To monitor student attendance concerns.
  3. To attend home visits/parent meetings as directed.
  4. To promote healthy lifestyles including dietary advice and healthy weight management.
  5. To ensure that all relevant staff are informed of any medical or welfare issues affecting students.
