Advert

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our wonderful school and teach in one of our Year 1 classes. The position is open to both experienced teachers and those at the beginning of their careers. We can accommodate either party.

We are a two form entry school, with parallel classes in every year group. Your teaching colleague in Year 1 is extremely experienced, as well as being a very kind and friendly person. She will be teaching Year 1 as of September 2016 following many years teaching across KS2. Hence, you will make an entirely new team within the year group.

Next door, in Year R, you have the Head of Lower School. She is an outstanding teacher, as well as being a very supportive person, and she will also offer you the benefit of her experience. We provide our teachers with a full day's PPA every two weeks, and you are released with your year group colleague, which allows you to share the planning requirements. Alongside this, if you are an NQT, you will have additional NQT time and be mentored by one of our Assistant Headteachers. We are very experienced in supporting NQTs and have had a great many join us over the past few years.

We aren't organised into key stages. Year R and 1 are arranged into our Lower School; Years 2 and 3 form our Middle School; and Years 4, 5 and 6 form Upper School. We don't believe that Year 2 sits comfortably with Years R and 1, being a more formal style of education. Our mini schools are their own teams and have some separate staff meetings and draw up their own independent improvement plans.

We aim to leave people in year groups for 3-4 years if possible, to allow them to consolidate their teaching. However, we also appreciate that people need change if they are to stay fresh and hence we also try to move teachers around, according to their wishes, to provide them with experience of other year groups.

Our Lower School is a wonderful place! The children enjoy coming to school because of the enormous amount of hard work our teachers put into making the environment so stimulating. The open plan classrooms are extremely large and supplemented by a lovely outside area. You will work alongside colleagues who have developed exceptionally good practice within Lower School. You will add to this, and play your part in helping to change and develop this even further. We are an academy and as such, enjoy freedoms which allow us to adapt our curriculum and we encourage our teachers to do just that and to be reflective about their practice.

NQTs don't co-ordinate subject areas, but when you do so, you will join one of our three curriculum teams, all of which are led by a senior teacher. We have no distinct need for a particular subject specialist, but obviously welcome whatever expertise you have!

Information about the school

Welcome to Godinton Primary School.

When you step inside our school, you will find an exciting environment of creativity and discovery, where children’s natural curiosity is stimulated and their capacity to learn is nurtured. We are very proud of our ethos, which provides a supportive, family atmosphere with an emphasis on ensuring that our children are happy and confident individuals who love coming to school.

At Godinton Primary School, our team works hard to provide every child with a well-rounded education, enabling them to reach their full potential and succeed wherever their strengths and skills may lie. We strive for academic excellence in our pupils but believe that this should be delivered alongside an enriching and creative curriculum.

We enjoy stand-alone Academy status and have been graded as GOOD by Ofsted at our last inspection (Feb 2024).

Tucked safely away on the Godinton Park Estate, its only when you step within the school gate that you can fully appreciate the school’s privileged outside space.

Our school grounds are both extensive and beautiful, stretching around the entire building and providing a wonderful natural backdrop. Children at Godinton benefit from vast playing fields, adventure play areas, two playgrounds and a thriving wildlife garden and environmental area. A broad area of woodland, also within the grounds, provides an inspiring space for curriculum enrichment, as a stimulus for poetry or creative writing or as the location for scientific nature trails.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school, where you can see for yourself what a special place Godinton Primary School is.

Miss Jill Talbot

Headteacher
