As part of our commitment to inclusive education following the launch of the new Mainstream Inclusion Fund, we are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).   The successful candidate will be part of our Learning Support Team working with students who have significant Communication and Interaction and Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, in particular students diagnosed with Autism, ADHD and Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).  This requires a passionate, patient, and proactive advocate for inclusion and student well-being.

The post holder will work with our Autism and ADHD Lead and also our SLCN Lead to deliver interventions under their guidance.  They will work with individual students, small groups of students, school staff and parents/carers both in a classroom context and also outside of the classroom.   The role will involve planning, preparing and delivering individual and group interventions.   The post holder may also provide individualised in lesson support as part of personalised support programmes. The role could also require active involvement with outside agencies.

Ideally candidates will have previous experience and training in working with students with a range of needs both in classroom and intervention.  Access to ongoing support and training will be provided.   As with all HLTA’s the post holder will be expected to progress both students’ learning and support pupils’ wellbeing. 

It is necessary for the candidate to have qualifications in Maths/Numeracy or English/Literacy equivalent to at least NVQ Level 2.  A qualification in supporting and teaching learning or evidence of working at HLTA Level and/or students with similar needs profiles would be advantageous.

Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre is a mixed 11 – 18 wide ability school with Academy status with 2000 students including 350 in the Sixth Form. We are part of Tenterden Schools’ Trust working in collaboration with local primary schools and nurseries serving the Wealden town of Tenterden and the surrounding villages. The school is situated on the edge of Tenterden and enjoys a large semi-rural site overlooking open countryside. Home Farm Nursery is based in the grounds of Homewood School.
